Acknowledgment
We respectfully acknowledge that we are situated on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot (Kainai, Siksika, Piikani, Tsuut’ina), Stoney (Îyârhe Nakoda), Nakota Sioux, Cree (Nehiyaw), Dëne Sųłiné and Dane-zaa. These lands are subject to Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10, and have long served as meeting grounds, travel routes, and gathering places for many diverse First Nations including the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, as well as Métis, and Inuit peoples.
Acknowledging Treaty 6 territory is essential for building respectful relationships, acknowledging injustices, and working towards a more inclusive society that values the rights and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
To our unhoused relatives as many indigenous people are facing homelessness which is linked to intergenerational trauma, systemic racism, forced relocation, and the loss of culture. To recognize and understand that Indigenous homelessness is not just lacking a physical home, but also isolation from family, culture, and traditional land.
The importance of our Elders and traditional knowledge keepers. The healing power of cultural identity is important to our children, youth, Individuals and families.
Honouring those who have gone before and those who continue to walk with us, recognizing your vital role.
